888 Macau Airlines is reportedly eyeing launch by 2020 and is now seeking to raise $45 million in funding so it can set-up a hybrid airline.
The launch is dependent on contesting Air Macau’s 25-year franchise agreement, which expires in 2020, and 888 Macau Airlines reportedly may also be a part of a sub-concession agreement with Air Macau.
The new carrier is planning on flying routes to India, Thailand, Philippines, and Portugal via Greece or Cyprus, while working in partnership with casinos and travel operators to fill aircraft loads.
Partners are currently being sought to get the project off the ground, with plans to begin short-haul operations from Macau in 12 months, pending it secures funding. The carrier’s air operator’s certificate (AOC) is yet to be granted.
