Snow sweeping across the UK causes aviation disruption

A band of heavy snow across southern England and Wales has brought disruption to airports and airline flight schedules after more than 10cm fell in the last 24 hours.

British Airways has cancelled a number of short-haul flights to and from Heathrow Airport tomorrow due to the “adverse weather conditions”.

Cornwall Airport Newquay, was closed due to snow on Thursday afternoon and remains closed. The airport said on Twitter today: “Please note that the airport is closed until 10.30am local time due to snow.

“Please note that Ryanair will operate the cancelled flight to Alicante tomorrow at 10.45am from Cornwall Airport Newquay. Passengers are required to be checked in by 09.50am. For further information please contact the information desk on 01637 860 600.”

Heathrow Airport said on Twitter is does not currently expect the weather to have any effect on flights but advised passengers to get in touch with their airlines.

No flights are running at Bristol Airport until at least midday.
