Virgin Atlantic to axe Dubai – London Heathrow route from March

Virgin Atlantic is to axe services between London’s Heathrow Airport and Dubai International Airport next year as due to a combination of external factors – the route is “no longer economically viable”.

The airline said daily flights will continue until 31 March 2019 and it had made the “difficult decision” to withdraw the service after “conducting a thorough review of its network”.

Virgin Atlantic chief commercial officer, Shai Weiss said: “It‘s never an easy decision to withdraw a route, and we’d like to thank our customers and dedicated team in Dubai for their loyalty over the last 12 years.”

The British carrier launched its service between Heathrow and Dubai in March 2006, with four times weekly flights that increased to five per week in May and daily from 1 June.
