easyJet has launched its first flight to Bordeaux Airport as the first of four new routes take-off from London Southend Airport while it gets set to add a fourth aircraft to the base.
The new route took-off yesterday afternoon and will operate three times a week, and the low-cost carrier expects to carry more than 30,000 passengers on the new service operating on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.
easyJet is also set to launch new routes from Southend to Prague, Pula and Dubrovnik this summer and says it expects it will carry over one million annual passengers to and from the airport for the first time this year with a 25 per cent year on year rise in passenger numbers.
easyJet now operates 20 destinations from London Southend and director of UK market, Sophie Dekkers said: “Having been at London Southend Airport for over six years, the addition of another aircraft this summer will help us to deliver long term, sustainable growth at the airport whilst providing passengers with a greater range of destinations, all with low fares and great service.”
London Southend Airport chief executive officer, Glyn Jones said: “We are now London’s fastest growing airport, and it is great to see that easyJet expect to carry over one million annual passengers to and from the airport for the first time this year. We are expecting great demand for flights to Bordeaux, and wish the passengers on this inaugural flight bon voyage.”
