Most people heading to the airport probably think airlines will only take suitcases as checked luggage – but Southwest Airlines has revealed some of the hilarious items its customers have checked in.
Among the airline’s favourite are a piñata, a single pair of Crocs shoes and box of almost 40 bottles of ketchup.
In a post via TikTok, the US carrier revealed some of the funniest belongings that passengers have checked in for their flight, including “Nemo” (a box of live tropical fish), a 50ml bottle of hot sauce (this has to be a joke?) and a very, very long box which kept viewers guessing as to what could even be in there.
“Whoever checked this, are you doing okay?” the airline asked the passenger who checked in no less than 37 bottles of ketchup.
The video was posted in response to a user who commented “why have I never realised you can check other things, it’s not limited to suit cases?”, on another of Southwest’s videos showcasing the other bizarre objects put in the hold by passengers.
Other entrants on the list from previous videos include a single banana, a pink, sparkly cowboy hat and a frying pan.

Also included are a wooden stick, a short piece of rope and a pool noodle. Is there no limit to the oddities that Southwest will store in the hold for customers?
One user commented: “I NEED to know what was in the long box”. A flagpole was one person’s prediction.
Another humorously wrote: “Rumour has it, that long box is still being loaded.”
Another said: “When I moved between countries I had to post my gaming chair, but one armrest didn’t fit inside the weight limit so it travelled with me in my checked bag. Imagine seeing a single armrest in the x-ray.”
A Southwest spokesperson told ARGS: “The internet is loving how creative our customers get with our ‘checked bags series’.”
According to the airline’s checked bag policy, each customer is allowed two free checked bags.
Golf bags and skis will count towards passengers’ free allowances if they are within the weight limit of 50lbs (22.67kg).
