Dublin’s lively mix of culture, history and nightlife is set to become more accessible for Norwegian travellers as Aer Lingus launches new routes connecting Ireland and Norway for the first time.

The Irish carrier, part of the IAG Group, has begun expanding into the Nordic region after a nine-year absence from Scandinavia. The airline launched its first-ever Norway service to Tromsø on 3 December and will add a new Dublin–Oslo route from 1 May 2026.

A major new addition for Norwegian airports

Ulv Elbirk, Director of Route Development, Asia & Americas at Avinor, said: “Aer Lingus has not flown to Scandinavia since March 2016 and has never operated to or from Norway before.

“We see this as a great addition to the route offerings in both Tromsø and Oslo, and we look forward to welcoming Aer Lingus.”

Travellers heading to Dublin will find a city rich in charm: the historic campus of Trinity College, the world-famous Book of Kells Library, and the buzzing Temple Bar district with its traditional pubs and live Irish music. Ireland’s capital also offers easy access to golf courses, day trips and centuries of history.

Tourism boost for Oslo

Christian Lunde, VisitOSLO CEO, welcomed the new link, saying: “We are delighted that Aer Lingus is opening a direct connection between Dublin and Oslo in 2026.

“This route gives us a fantastic opportunity to welcome Irish travellers to a city that combines world-class art, nature on the doorstep, outstanding culinary experiences and cultural attractions for every taste.”

He added that closer ties between Ireland and Norway would help highlight Oslo’s appeal to new visitors.

Smoother US travel via Dublin hub

The new Norway–Ireland connections will also enhance long-haul travel options. Aer Lingus offers an extensive network of transatlantic routes from Dublin, with strong onward connections to cities including New York, Boston and Washington.

Susanne Carberry, the airline’s Chief Customer Officer, said: “We are pleased to add Oslo to the Aer Lingus network with a new direct flight from Dublin.

“This route also improves connections for travellers heading to the US via our Dublin hub, making Norway’s capital closer than ever.”

The expansion marks a notable move for Aer Lingus as it strengthens its European footprint while offering Norwegian passengers an efficient new gateway to North America.
