Auckland Airport has welcomed the news that Air New Zealand will launch a direct route to Taipei in Taiwan from November this year.
The carrier will commence three flights per week from Auckland to Taipei with a Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Auckland Airport’s general manager for aeronautical commercial, Scott Tasker said it will add 95,000 seats to the route and inject $80 million annually into the New Zealand economy.
“New Zealand already welcomes more than 36,000 visitors from Taiwan every year. The introduction of a direct service will be attractive to Taiwanese visitors and will encourage travel to New Zealand as a holiday destination,” added Tasker.
The new service will also provide opportunities for trade, with the addition of 4,368 tonnes of air cargo capacity between New Zealand and Taiwan annually. In 2017 the key exports to Taiwan were strawberries, avocados and dairy products.
