AirAsia’s Indonesian subsidiary has announced new direct flights between Hong Kong and Indonesia’s two main international hubs.

The budget carrier will link both Jakarta and Bali with Hong Kong on a daily service starting in October, with flights from Bali commencing on 1 October and from Jakarta on 8 October.

Although AirAsia Group has had a long presence in Hong Kong, this marks the first time direct links have been established between Hong Kong and Indonesia by the company.

AirAsia will also be the sole budget carrier operating these routes, currently served by full-service carriers including Garuda Indonesia and Cathay Pacific on the Jakarta sector, and Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines on the Bali sector.

Veranita Yosephine, CEO of Indonesia AirAsia, said: “Indonesia AirAsia is committed to providing the best service and expanding its flight network to meet the increasing needs and demands of passengers, whether for vacation trips or for business trips.

“With the introduction of these new routes, Indonesia AirAsia hopes to support the growth of tourism and the economy between both sides.”

The airline has highlighted a significant rebound in passenger traffic from Indonesia to Hong Kong over the last two years, while traffic from Hong Kong has also been on a steady rise.

It hopes the addition of these flights will see the continued increase of passenger traffic between both regions by the end of the year as it aims to enhance connectivity between the two Asian subregions.

The launch of the new routes has also been brought with special promotional fares for the routes bookable for a short period until 18 August, for travel up to the end of next March.

The new routes will add to AirAsia Group’s existing 131 weekly flights to Hong Kong and Macau, directly served from places such as Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Bangkok, Chang Mai and Manila.
