One of Chinas major airlines, China Eastern, is returning to Stockholm Arlanda Airport in June 2026, with a new direct route to one of the country’s major hubs, Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

China Eastern will be an important addition to Stockholm Arlanda, connecting the Swedish capital with Shanghai, Chinas financial and commercial hub.

Elizabeth Axtelius, Director Aviation Business at Swedavia, says: “There is great confidence in the Swedish air travel market and China Eastern’s investment in a direct route from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Shanghai is a clear sign of this.

“China Eastern will play an important role in connecting Sweden to China and other well-established markets in Asia.

“Swedavia’s main goal is to increase the connectivity and facilitate people to meet, whether it is for business, leisure, or to visit family and friends.”

Shanghai is China’s largest city, a global financial and commercial hub and home to one of the world’s busiest ports. China is Sweden’s largest trading partner in Asia, and Shanghai is the base for many major Swedish companies.

The new route will also be of significant importance for the hospitality industry as well as high-value cargo, benefiting from shorter and faster delivery times. Furthermore, the route will serve as an important connection to the Greater China and Asia Pacific due to China Eastern’s vast network.

Starting on June 22, 2026, China Eastern will operate Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) three times a week, on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
