Fast-growing Chisinau International Airport has been bought by Guernsey-based property firm NR Investments Ltd from Avia Invest for an undisclosed sum.

The Channel Islands company has agreed to acquire 95 per cent of the largest and sole international airport in Moldova.

Agreement was ratified between representatives of Avia Invest and NR Investments’ sole beneficiary, Nat Rothschild, yesterday (19 August.)

The operations and management of Chisinau International Airport transferred to a concessionaire – Avia Invest – in November 2013, under a private-public partnership model. During that time Avia Invest oversaw a full modernisation of the airport, including a new passenger terminal, runway and apron modernisation, and other enhancements to airport infrastructure.

Chisinau International Airport sits at the crossroads of the passenger flows between Asia and Europe. 16 airlines currently operate, including full-service carriers and low-cost carriers to 38 destinations, including to London, Dublin, Paris, Istanbul and Moscow.

In 2018, Chisinau International Airport handled 2.8 million passengers, a 14.8 per cent increase since 2010. In 2019 it is targeting more than three million passengers.
