Dubai-based Emirates has expanded its codeshare agreement with Portugal’s flag carrier TAP Air, the airline said on Monday.

Under the new memorandum of understanding (MoU), passengers of the two carriers will be able to enjoy more travel benefits, including seamless connections on new routes across the Americas, North Africa and East Asia.

TAP Air Portugal will place its code on Emirates’ flights to East Asian destinations such as Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Mumbai, Delhi, Dhaka, Male, Jakarta, Denpasar, Manila, Hanoi, Barcelona and Mexico City.

Emirates’ flyers will also be able to access additional destinations in Portugal, United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Morocco, Tunisia, Gambia and Cape Verde.

The expanded codeshare deal is expected to take effect from May 1, 2021.

“Emirates and TAP Air Portugal have enjoyed a mutually successful codeshare partnership for the past eight years. We are delighted to expand this relationship and look forward to delivering even more benefits to our customers,” said Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ chief commercial officer.

Emirates currently flies to two of Portugal’s popular destinations, Lisbon and Porto. Under the existing codeshare agreement, Emirates flyers are able to connect to dozens of destinations with TAP Portugal – all on one ticket.
