Emirates grounds 20 aircraft during Ramadan downturn

According to a report by Bloomberg, Emirates has admitted grounding 20 of its flights in a slow month as it deals with a downturn in demand from Gulf region passengers and business travelers from elsewhere during the month of Ramadan.

The 20 aircraft will continue regular operations when Ramadan – the Islamic fasting tradition – ends in around two weeks time.

Emirates told reporters during IATA’s AGM in Sydney, Australia, that the fleet grounded was a mix of A380’s and Boeing 777’s.

Emirates noted that the regular slowness in the month of Month was exacerbated by the fasting tradition.
