Finnair has reached a tentative agreement with the Finnish Transport Workers’ Union (AKT), concluding months of negotiations over a new collective labour agreement for the airline’s cabin crew.

The deal, reached on 19 May, covers a three-year period, with the final year marked as optional, pending mutual approval.

The agreement still requires formal ratification by the governing bodies of both Finnair and AKT.

The talks began in December 2024 and were closely watched amid wider industry concerns over staffing, working conditions, and post-pandemic restructuring within European aviation.

Kaisa Aalto-Luoto, Finnair’s chief people officer says: “I am very pleased that we have reached a result together through constructive discussion. This lays a sound foundation on which we can build and shape a successful shared future.”

The agreement affects approximately 1,800 Finnair cabin crew members, whose roles in ensuring both passenger safety and service quality are regularly cited in the airline’s high customer satisfaction scores.

While specific terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, the outcome is expected to provide greater stability and support Finnair’s efforts to enhance its operational resilience and customer experience as the airline continues its recovery and growth plans.
