France is seeking to ban short-haul domestic flights where an alternative train connection exists in a bid to cut carbon emissions.
French lawmakers voted over the weekend to back a bill that would see the end of flights where a train journey could be made in less than two and a half hours.
Connecting flights will not be affected by the proposal which must now be passed by the Senate in order to become law.
The current legislature has been watered down from the original proposals that would see train journeys of up to four hours take precedence over an alternative flight.
