Passenger traffic at Frankfurt Airport remained broadly stable in February 2026, with around 3.9 million travellers passing through Germany’s busiest aviation hub.
Operator Fraport said passenger numbers were largely unchanged compared with the same month last year, although strike action and severe weather caused flight cancellations affecting about 70,000 travellers during the period.
While passenger traffic held steady, cargo throughput increased by 4.8% year-on-year to 159,362 metric tonnes, including both air freight and airmail.
At the same time, aircraft movements declined by 2.9% to 29,320 take-offs and landings.
The airport’s accumulated maximum take-off weights (MTOWs) – a measure of aircraft load capacity – also fell slightly, dropping 2.4% to around 1.9 million metric tonnes.
Growth across international airports
Across the wider portfolio of airports managed by Fraport, most locations recorded passenger growth during February.
Traffic at Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport in Slovenia rose 17.2% year-on-year to 95,121 passengers.
In Brazil, the company’s airports in Fortaleza International Airport and Salgado Filho International Airport handled a combined 1.1 million passengers, up 14.7% compared with a year earlier.
Passenger traffic at Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima increased 4.2% to around 2 million travellers.
Regional growth in Europe
Fraport’s 14 regional airports in Greece handled 720,587 passengers, representing a 9.1% increase year-on-year.
Meanwhile, the Bulgarian coastal airports of Burgas Airport and Varna Airport together welcomed 79,968 passengers, an 11.4% rise compared with February last year.
However, traffic at Antalya Airport on the Turkish Riviera fell by 3.8% year-on-year to 865,187 passengers.
