Garuda Indonesia retains status as five-star rated airline

Garuda Indonesia, the national flag-carrier of Indonesia has retained its 5-Star rating from Skytrax, the independent UK-based institution that assigns global airline rankings. The airline has held its “5-Star Airline” rating since 2014.

Garuda Indonesia’s CEO Pahala N. Mansury was given the official certification by Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax at the Singapore Airshow 2018 at the Changi Exhibition Centre this morning.

“This achievement is the result of consistent hard work and commitment of management and all employees of Garuda Indonesia to always provide the best service for our passengers,” said CEO of Garuda Indonesia, Pahala N. Mansury.

“Attaining a 5-star rating has certainly become a major milestone and added significant value not only for us as the national flag carrier, but also for Indonesia and the country’s aviation industry as a whole.

This certificate renewal validates our continued commitment to maintain a high quality of service. Indeed, we will further improve and innovate to uphold our 5-Star reputation and ensure Garuda Indonesia stays at the forefront of the global airline industry for many years to come”.

Pahala noted the 5-star airline rating not only recognises the achievements of Garuda Indonesia in proving itself a world class airline, but also represents the success of the “Indonesian Hospitality” concept in the industry.

The five-star certification is granted following a thorough Skytrax Audit with detailed assessments covering all service aspects covering pre-flight, in-flight and post-flight. This includes the quality of the passenger’s service at the airport, the quality of the waiting room, the comfort of the cabin, the inflight meal, the in-flight entertainment and the service by the cabin crew.

Garuda Indonesia has been one of only 10 airlines operating with the 5-star status out of the approximately 200 airlines operating worldwide – the others being Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Asiana Airlines, All Nippon Airlines (ANA), Hainan Airlines and Lufthansa.

In 2013, SkyTrax named Garuda Indonesia as “The World’s Best Economy Class” and the airline has held on to the award “The World’s Best Cabin Crew” from SkyTrax for four consecutive years (2014 to 2017).

In addition, Garuda Indonesia’s subsidiary low-cost airline Citilink Indonesia also attained a 4-Star Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) certificate from Skytrax.

The 4–Star rating is seen as a major milestone for Citilink Indonesia and its parent company, Garuda Indonesia Group. Citilink Indonesia is the first Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) in Asia to attain the certification, joining European carriers Norwegian Air and Easyjet in the category.
