Gatwick forced to close runway following air traffic controller sickness

posted on 9th April 2018 by yumna

Gatwick Airport was forced to close its runway four times yesterday and today as a staff shortage in air traffic control meant flights were diverted or delayed.

Only one air traffic controller was on duty instead of three on the Sunday through Monday shift, meaning that the runway had to be closed to allow the employee their mandatory breaks.

Several flights were subject to diversions during the alloted break times.

Gatwick Airport have since said that the issue has been resolved.
