Heathrow Airport is “back to its best” as 7.5m passengers pass through in August, says its boss.
The latest figures from the UK’s biggest airport showed a total passenger growth of 25 per cent up from August last year across all markets.
UK terminal passengers saw an increase of 46 per cent while travellers to Asia-Pacific destinations witnessed a growth of 71 per cent.
Across the whole of last month, Heathrow also recorded a total of 9,905 air transport movements to all recorded destinations.
These include the UK, EU, non-EU Europe, Africa, North America, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
John Holland-Kaye, Heathrow Airport CEO, said: “I am very proud of the way colleagues across Team Heathrow made sure that passengers had a super start to their summer holidays, with record levels of passenger satisfaction and average security queue times of less than two minutes. Heathrow is back to its best.”
Statistics also showed that passengers checked in more bags than ever before and that satisfaction was higher than pre-pandemic levels. Meanwhile, security wait times averaged only 1.5 minutes.
Heathrow said this reflected the investment that the airport, airlines and their ground handlers have made in recruiting and training over 25,000 new colleagues in the last two years.
