Icelandair has announced Edinburgh, Scotland, as an exciting new destination in its ever-growing route network.
The route is due to launch in September of this year, following the 80th anniversary of Icelandair commencing flights to Scotland.
Edinburgh will become the airline’s second Scottish route to the Icelandic capital Reykjavik, joining Glasgow in this important region for the airline.
Icelandair will offer either three or four flights a week to Edinburgh, from 12th September 2025 through to 12 April 2026.
The route will be operated by a Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft, and the flying time will be two and a half hours.
The flight times for the route ensure that passengers are able to connect seamlessly onto Icelandair’s extensive global network.
Edinburgh is a city where history and creativity meet. Known for its iconic castle, winding medieval streets, and elegant Georgian architecture, it also hosts world-renowned festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe.
With a vibrant arts scene, rich literary heritage, and dramatic landscapes, it’s a city that blends old-world charm with modern flair.
Bogi Nils Bogason, Icelandair president and CEO: “We are very excited to add Edinburgh to our network, particularly in our 80th year of flying from Scotland.
“Not only will this give the people of Edinburgh and surrounding areas the opportunity to visit Iceland and other great destinations on our network, but it will also allow more access to the beautiful capital of Scotland.
“Our network now spans more than 60 destinations, and travellers can make the most of their journey by taking advantage of our stopover programme, enjoying a stay in Iceland along the way.”
Icelandair has also added Malaga to its European offering over the winter period, with flights twice a week from September to October and once a week from 25th October to 7th January.
From 15th April the route will again be services twice a week, until 30th May. Icelandair traffic data in April 2025 shows 25% capacity growth.
