iPort, a provider of airline IT solutions, announces its certification for the European Union EES (Entry-Exit System) program.

This was approved by eu-LISA (European Union Agency for Large-Scale IT Systems).

The European Union EES and ETIAS programs will facilitate open borders while ensuring effective border control measures.

Airlines operating flights that arrive into the European Schengen area from non-Schengen departures must comply with EES (2024 Q4) and ETIAS (2025) requirements.

iPort has been selected as a pilot system for EES/ETIAS certification after collaborative efforts between eu-LISA and iPort’s development teams.

With this certification, iPort is now fully connected with the eu-LISA carrier interface, adhering to the agency’s authentication schemes and technical guidelines.

A significant advantage of certification is that airlines utilizing iPort for passenger handling can bypass airline-specific certification testing.

iPort digitally connects to the EES system-to-system and confirms whether further document checks are required.

The integration of the eu-LISA interface into iPort’s existing API workflow ensures minimal training requirements for end-users.

The EES is set to commence operations by the end of 2024 and will be replacing manual passport stamping with electronic records of entries and exits, allowing carriers to verify the usage of authorized entries by third-country nationals traveling to the EU with short-stay visas.

ETIAS requires carriers to verify the validity of travel authorizations for visa-exempt passengers prior to boarding and is slated to become operational in 2025.
