Korean Air conducts temperature checks for US flights

With the increasing concerns about air travel due to the proliferation of COVID-19, Korean Air is building a thorough response system starting with US routes.

Starting with KE017, a flight from Incheon to Los Angeles, on February 28, all flights departing from Incheon International Airport to the US will be required to check the temperature of passengers. At the same time, additional cabin disinfection will be conducted.

Accordingly, all passengers bound for the US will go through temperature checks at the boarding gates; thermal imaging cameras and handheld thermometers will be used. Passengers with a temperature higher than 37.5 degrees, which is one of the symptoms of COVID-19, will be denied boarding.

Also, the airline will disinfect the entire cabin by using MD-125 chemicals. MD-125 is a sterilization product approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety as well as the Ministry of Environment. It is especially known as one of the most effective products to eliminate coronavirus, as the “human coronavirus” is specified on its sterilization list.

Furthermore, as the national flag carrier, Korean Air will encourage national airlines operating flights to the US to check passengers’ temperatures and strengthen cabin disinfection. The airline will continue to share information with the Incheon Airport Operation Committee (AOC) to create a structure of quick and efficient measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Korean Air plans to expand these procedures to other routes.
