Korean Air has commenced ground handling operations at New Chitose Airport in Japan.

According to local media, the airline launched ground services at New Chitose Airport this month, reports The Korea News Plus.

Korean Air will now be responsible for ground handling services, including guiding aircraft with specialised vehicles and loading and unloading cargo.

The airline’s ground handling operations will initially focus on its own flights between South Korea and New Chitose Airport.

It plans to handle seven round-trip flights weekly from this month. And from April, operations will expand to include flights operated by Korean’s low-cost subsidiary Jin Air, increasing to 21 round-trip flights weekly.

The carrier established Korean Air Airport Service Japan in 2024, which currently employs around 20 people and is continuing to recruit new workers.

Korean Air vice chairman Woo Kee-hong said: “To maintain stable operations on routes connecting South Korea and Hokkaido, it is essential to establish our own ground handling system.”
