The Chief Executive from the state’s top tourism body, Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT), commented that the airport was one of the premier regional airports in Australia that was committed to serving as a genuine gateway to Tasmania.
Launceston Airport General Manager Paul Hodgen said he was proud to receive the accolade once again.
“Launceston Airport is the main tourism gateway to Northern Tasmania and I am overjoyed that we have been awarded with a Gold Tasmanian Tourism Award for a second time, cementing our position as an industry leader,” said Mr Hodgen.
“We have been squarely focused on putting Launceston and the surrounding region ‘on the map’ through our marketing efforts ranging from in-terminal activations to competitions and inflight reading material.
“One of our biggest highlights was the wrapping of a Jetstar A320 aircraft in an eye-catching Launceston livery, which has made more than 750 trips, visiting 18 domestic airports and two international airports.”
Responding to continued growth in tourism visitation, in recent months the airport has expanded its car rental bay capacity by more than 20 per cent, and installed undercover walkways to and from the terminal.
“As we head toward the end of the year we are keen to work with Tourism Tasmania, major event partners and airlines to encourage travellers to ‘Come Down for Air, by air of course.”
