London City Airport today announced it is granting a further £36,000 to local charities and community groups based in East London through its annual Community Fund.

The airport has donated funding to 13 charities and not-for-profit organisations across six boroughs: Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney, Waltham Forest, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Each successful applicant will receive a grant of up to £3,000 to support communities across East London.

Among the local groups that have secured funding are the Burdett Foundation, which works to promote the wellbeing of residents of the Burdett Estate in Poplar, the Hackney Foodbank which provides emergency food parcels to people in crisis and NEWway Project, a charity helping to tackle homelessness in Newham.

Other awardees include the Globe Community Project, working to reduce loneliness in Tower Hamlets, and Central Park Allstars FC, empowering young girls to play football and develop transferable skills through workshops and mentoring.

Since launching in May 2019, the airport’s Community Fund has donated £598,000 to more than 180 charities and not-for-profit organisations.

The fund is part of a broader, ongoing community investment scheme helping to improve the quality of life in local communities.

In 2025 alone, 196 London City Airport staff contributed upwards of 800 volunteering hours, supporting more than 2,700 East Londoners, including 1,000 students.

The airport also invested over £240,000 in community initiatives, including education programmes, local partnerships and events.

Other initiatives include the airport’s Women in Aviation Programme, which inspires young women in East London to pursue careers in aviation, and the Meet the Buyer event, which connects local Small to Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) with buyers in the London Docks and beyond.

Andy Cliffe, Chief Executive Officer, London City Airport, said: “We are proud of our East London roots and we are committed to supporting the future of our communities.

“Our Community Fund is one of the many ways we are making a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those we work alongside. Our focus is to enable vital services to thrive, create opportunities and build stronger communities across East London.”

Nazmin Begum, Senior Community and Sustainability Manager, London City Airport, added: “It’s so rewarding to see how awardees benefit from our Community Fund grants.

“From teaching young children how to grow and cook food to running a free school uniform bank to help parents in need, we’re proud to work with these organisations who understand their communities and can deliver long-lasting support where it’s needed.”

Pat Fitzsimons, Chief Executive Officer, Hackney Foodbank, said: “We’re so thankful for this grant from the London City Airport Community Fund, which will fund caseworker hours to help at least 25 people access benefits, grants and debt relief advice.

“We’re determined not to be a sticking plaster but to help people out of poverty and on to better situations. Around half of the people supported by our caseworkers no longer need to return for emergency food because their circumstances improve so much, so the help funded by this grant will be life-changing for our visitors.”
