London Luton Airport has confirmed it will carry out essential resurfacing of its runway between 3 November 2025 and 27 March 2026.
The airport said the work will require the runway to close every weeknight from 01:00 to 05:45 local time, with the final scheduled departure at 23:40 and the last arrival at 23:45.
Operations will resume each morning with the first departure at 05:45 and the first arrival at 06:00.
There will be no closures at weekends, and the runway will remain fully open during the busy Christmas travel period between 19 December and 6 January.
However, the project will temporarily reduce the runway’s instrument landing system from CAT III to CAT I, meaning fewer aircraft will be able to land during poor weather.
The airport has warned that diversions should be expected in cases of adverse conditions.
Officials stressed that the nightly closures will be enforced promptly to ensure the project is delivered on schedule, with no flexibility in the timing.
The resurfacing work is part of Luton’s investment in modernising its infrastructure to keep pace with passenger demand and ensure operational safety.
