Lufthansa to launch a new German regional airline in 2023

Carstan Spohr, CEO of Lufthansa, has announced the airlines plan to launch a new regional airline within Germany.

It is thought that the new airline will operate together with its regional subsidiary CityLine.

Carsten Spohr: “We plan to establish a kind of second Lufthansa CityLine that will be ready to start operations in early 2023.

“It serves various purposes.

“First, it will offer an opportunity to employ some 250 captains that were active with Germanwings, which has now been dissolved and which would risk unemployment.”

The as yet unnamed airline will have its own Airline Operator Certificate (AOC) and is expected to launch at some point in early 2023.
