Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport continued its increase in traffic in the second quarter of this year growing by 6.8 per cent compared to the same quarter last year with 2,891,478 passengers passing through its terminals.
Operator Aéroports de Lyon said the main driver of growth was international traffic, representing 68 per cent of the numbers, with growth of 6.8 per cent compared to the previous year.
Domestic traffic grew 4.6 per cent over the same period. Low cost traffic continued its strong upward trajectory with an extra 13.1 per cent of passengers.
Improved traffic results were driven by the opening of 28 new routes in 2018. Amongst these new routes, 17 new destinations were offered and 11 current routes were strengthened.
This was due to them being served by other operators, and also, because of the arrival of four new airlines at the airport. A highlight of the second quarter was the penultimate section of the new Terminal 1 being completed on 19 June.
With its new walkway, new centralised bus station and new baggage delivery room, the airport says Terminal 1 continues to improve capacity and its ease of use for customers.
