Malaysia Airlines has extended a codeshare agreement it has with Qatar Airways, in a move intended to increase its coverage throughout Europe.

Flights between Doha and various European cities, from 27 January, will feature Malaysia’s code on the Qatar services; Qatar is set to do the same on Malaysia-operated services between Kuala Lumpur and other cities in Malaysia and Singapore.

“Since 2001, both airlines have witnessed the significant benefits codeshare cooperation have brought, providing passengers with unrivalled service and seamless connections,” says Qatar’s group chief executive Akbar Al Baker.

“The expansion of codeshare cooperation between Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines is a natural next step in the strengthening of our close partnership.”

Prior to this, Malaysia has been codesharing Qatar-operated services from Doha to Kuala Lumpur and nine points in the United States, while Qatar has access to 20 routes operated by Malaysia.

Malaysia also codeshares with British Airways, Emirates, Etihad and KLM for flights into Europe, and for flights within the continent, it places its code on services operated by British Airways, Finnair and KLM.
