Malaysia Airlines have announced the introduction of a new type of ticket option called “shuttle fares” for the one-hour journey between between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

These shuttle fares are divided into three fare structures: Business Flex Shuttle, Economy Flex Shuttle and Economy Smart Shuttle.

The airline said the shuttle fares offer benefits to travellers, including: the option to change flights on the same day with no penalty, no fees to do so, and dedicated shuttle check-in counters at both airports.

The new fare options also include complimentary check-in baggage allowance of 40kg for Business Flex Shuttle, 35kg for Economy Flex Shuttle and 30kg for Economy Smart Shuttle.

The airline’s booking website shows that passengers paying for an Economy Flex Shuttle or an Economy Smart Shuttle can enjoy upgrade opportunities with miles as well, while Economy Flex Shuttle also offers free seat selection.

The new shuttle fare options offer an Enrich mile earning rate of 100 per cent, 150 per cent and 175-200 per cent for Economy Smart Shuttle, Economy Flex Shuttle and Business Flex Shuttle, respectively. Enrich is Malaysia’s Airlines’ frequent flyer programme.

The shuttle fares are available only on direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore operated by Malaysia Airlines. They will replace the former Business Flex, Economy Flex and Economy Smart fares on the route.

The Malaysian flag carrier said the introduction of the new shuttle fares is in response to the demands of both business and leisure travellers who would like more freedom and flexibility in their travel schedule and “at an attractive price point” when travelling between the Malaysian capital and Singapore.

The airline is now giving discounts of up to 20 per cent off on the Business Shuttle, Economy Flex Shuttle, and Economy Smart Shuttle fares until 27 December this year for travel till June 30, 2020.

In other news, Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines recently signed an agreement that could see the two airlines expand codeshare routes.
