Leisure carrier Marabu Airlines has joined the Board of Airline Representatives in Germany (BARIG).

Founded as a start-up in 2022, Marabu has become a well-represented airline in Germany with operations based at Hamburg, Leipzig and Nuremberg airports.

Axel Schefe, CEO of Marabu Airlines, said: “[W]e see the urgent need for the industry to tackle important issues now in order to be able to operate successfully in the long-term.

“BARIG does an outstanding job with its various working groups as well as with politicians, the economy, airports and many other players. Therefore, we are delighted to be part of the BARIG community now.”

Michael Hoppe, BARIG chairman and executive director, added: “With Marabu Airlines, a young, dynamic airline adds up to the BARIG community’s tourism segment.

The trends in the German tourism market, which were recently discussed at ITB and our BARIG Networking & Conference Day, predict a positive development for 2025.

“We are delighted to follow this market development together with Marabu Airlines as another European member.”

Since its first flight in April 2023, Marabu has already transported more than two million passengers.

With a fleet of eight Airbus A320neos and two further aircraft on wet-lease, the carrier currently serves around 30 holiday destinations – mainly in the Mediterranean region.

Founded in 1951, BARIG represents the interests of over 100 national and international airlines in scheduled, charter and air cargo operations.
