African airlines LAM – Mozambique Airlines and Fastjet have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The MoU will cover different partnerships such as codeshare, route agreements, optimisation of synergies in the operations of flights to common and complementary destinations, as well as cooperation in other commercial activities, cargo, engineering and maintenance.
LAM’s executive chairman, António Pinto said: “The areas of cooperation will not only strengthen Mozambique’s flag company even more as an air service provider, but will also significantly contribute to initiatives that promote tourism, economic development and commerce.”
Pinto added the partnership is an “innovative initiative” aimed at stimulating air traffic in the domestic and regional markets.
He said it supports Mozambique’s higher economic growth objectives in terms of efficient and affordable movement of people and goods, but also the notion of a long-term strategy regarding the performance of commercial aviation.
Fastjet executive chairman, Nico Bezuidenhout said the trade cooperation approach is the first of its kind in the African Continent.
He added: “There is a significant opportunity in stimulating not only commercial aviation but also economic growth upstream and downstream through key cooperation initiatives.
“Fastjet is committed to exploring and leveraging the agreement for the best benefit of both companies.”
