Munich Airport is once again the European champion after being named yesterday as the continent’s best in the Skytrax World Airport Awards – the 12th time in 14 years that the Bavarian hub has earned this honour.

In the new worldwide rankings, Munich finished in the top 10 airports globally in the awards with a seventh place. The awards ceremony held at Passenger Terminal EXPO in London. Heathrow Airport was Europe’s second best and eighth overall.

The World Airport Awards are based on a global survey of passengers from 100 countries which helped Skytrax produce ratings for 550 airports around the world.

“We’re very proud of our airport. This award shows that we are also seen by international observers as a highly efficient and very welcoming airport,” said Munich Airport chief executive officer, Michael Kerkloh.

“That’s why this prize belongs above all to the over 35,000 people employed at the airport. It is their commitment, day in and day out, that ensure that our airport enjoys such an excellent reputation around the world.”

Munich Airport’s Terminal 2 also placed third in the World’s Best Terminal category.
