New Zealand regulators have approved a five-year extension for the joint venture between Cathay Pacific Airways and Air New Zealand.

Originally formed in 2013, the alliance has significantly enhanced connectivity between Hong Kong and New Zealand, contributing to increased travel and trade.

Cathay Pacific’s general manager for the Southwest Pacific, Frosti Lau, highlighted the airline’s ongoing commitment to expanding capacity to New Zealand.

During peak travel months, the partnership will offer up to 18 weekly return flights between New Zealand and Hong Kong.

This includes Cathay’s seasonal Christchurch-Hong Kong service, running four times weekly from 30 October through 29 March 2025.

The extension promises continued support for both leisure and business travel between the two regions, building on the success of the decade-long partnership.

Michael Williams, Air New Zealand chief transformation and alliances officer says: “Together, we have built a robust network that not only connects New Zealanders to destinations around the world, including Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland, but also ensures convenient access for global travellers to explore New Zealand’s regions via Hong Kong”.
