Primera Air to expand its UK network

Primera Air is to expand in the UK with seven new flights and Manchester as the latest addition.

The low-cost airline will soon start direct transatlantic flights from London Stansted and Birmingham to New York Newark, Boston, Washington Dulles and Toronto, continues expansion with extended flights from Birmingham to North America and adding a Manchester–Malaga route.

Primera Air is opening a new base in Malaga and will operate winter flights to Birmingham and Manchester.

Chief commercial officer Anastasija Visnakova, said: “Historically Malaga is our strongest destination and with more than 1000 flights last year, it was also our most demanded destination. We see that Malaga is also very popular with UK travelers, so we believe our Manchester route will give British travelers better flying options.”

The Nordic airline is also opening new winter routes from London Stansted to Tenerife and Alicante, as well as new routes from Birmingham to Alicante, Tenerife, Las Palmas and Reykjavik.

“We’re happy that Reykjavik is our first short haul Northern European destination out of UK. For an airline, whose roots stem from Iceland, it is also a somewhat symbolic move,” Visnakova added.

In addition, Primera Air is extending its Birmingham-New York and Birmingham-Toronto flight schedule through November.

“We are beginning our transatlantic flights to North America in just a few weeks and the final preparation stage is truly exciting. The fact that we’ve already created more than 250 jobs here, clearly shows that the UK market is at the core of our business plan, and travelers can expect to see even more transatlantic and European destinations from our UK bases in the future,” said Visnakova.

As previously announced, Primera Air is opening new bases in Birmingham (BHX), London Stansted (STN) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) to commence flights to New York, Boston, Washington DC and Toronto already this April along with new routes from UK to Málaga, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Barcelona and Chania.

Within the next two years, Primera Air plans to increase its presence on current bases and to add new transatlantic routes and bases, as it has 20 new Boeing MAX9-ER on order.
