Australia’s national carrier, Qantas, has announced it is launching a new international route to Darwin, offering more choice to Australia’s Northern Territory for travellers from the United
From December 9 2024, the new service, operating Singapore-Darwin, will connect seamlessly from Qantas flight QF2 from London, providing travellers from the UK with a new one-stop option to Darwin on Qantas, as well as onward connections to the airline’s extensive domestic network around Australia.
Flights will initially operate five days per week with the dual-class Embraer E190 aircraft, increasing to daily from March 2025.
Qantas International CEO Cam Wallace said the new Darwin service was a welcome addition to the airline’s international network.
“We’re thrilled to be offering our customers another new international route and making it more convenient for those wanting to start off their Australian adventure with some iconic Top End experiences,” said Mr Wallace.
“This new route also allows us to restore the link from the UK which was established when international borders first reopened after the pandemic and we temporarily re-routed our London flight via Darwin.
“As Australia’s national carrier, we’re committed to showcasing the best of Australia to visitors from around the globe.
“This new service makes it much easier for Qantas customers from the United Kingdom to incorporate Darwin into their Australian itinerary and experience everything the Territory has to offer.”
Darwin was the final Australia stop-over on the original Kangaroo Route from London to Australia in 1935.
In those days, the flight from Darwin to Singapore took five stops and four and a half days versus a four hours and 45 minutes flight on the new direct service.
Eligible Qantas customers and Frequent Flyers will have access to the Qantas International London Lounge at Heathrow and the Qantas International First or Business Lounges at Singapore’s Changi Airport.
On their return, eligible customers will have access to the Qantas Club in Darwin prior to clearing immigration and security.
Fares from London to Darwin start from £1536 return and are available from today via qantas.com/gb or through travel agents.
