Hundreds of travelers at London Stansted airport were left stranded with no luggage for hours in the early hours of this morning as airport ground handlers went home.
Swissport, the handling agent at London’s Stansted Airport, stated that seven times the number of anticipated flights arrived after 1.00am Monday morning, with many delayed by air traffic control restrictions due to ongoing bad weather.
Hundreds of passengers were left waiting for their bags for up to four hours after facing long queues at passport control. Some passengers were reported to have slept in the toilets or airport floors.
Swissport stated that the delays leading to flights landing outside of operating hours led to the airport being severely understaffed.
Swissport and Stansted Airport have since apologized to passengers for the delays in returning baggage.
