The Star Alliance has opened a new passenger connection centre at Los Angeles International Airport, aimed at improving transfers between its member airlines at one of its busiest global hubs.
The facility, known as a Star Connection Centre (SCC), is the ninth of its kind worldwide and is designed to help passengers with tight onward connections, particularly when flights are delayed.
More than 350,000 travellers connect between Star Alliance airlines at LAX each year, making it one of the alliance’s most important transfer points in North America.
The centre uses specialist systems to identify passengers at risk of missing connecting flights. Dedicated staff can then intervene, meeting travellers at arrival gates and escorting them quickly to their next departure.
Ambar Franco, Vice President of Customer Experience at Star Alliance, said the initiative was focused on delivering “seamless” multi-airline journeys.
“Every moment matters when connections are tight, and our goal is to make multi-airline journeys feel seamless,” she said.
Star Alliance said the centres rely on close coordination between member airlines behind the scenes, allowing passengers to experience what it described as a smoother and more unified journey across different carriers.
The alliance has operated connection centres for more than a decade, supporting both passenger transfers and baggage handling at key airports worldwide.
Existing centres are located in Brussels, Chicago, Frankfurt and Toronto, while additional hubs focused on baggage operations operate in Houston, Newark, Washington and San Francisco.
Sixteen Star Alliance member airlines currently serve Los Angeles, collectively operating more than 2,000 weekly flights to over 80 destinations across more than 20 countries.
