Swedavia reports 'strong demand for summer travel' in July 2025

Air travel at Swedavia’s 10 airports continued to increase in July, the airport operator has said.

Last month, just over 3 million passengers flew via Swedavia’s 10 airports, which is an increase of 2% compared to July 2024.

Demand for both international and domestic travel remains high. International travel increased by 2%.

Stockholm Arlanda and Göteborg Landvetter airports reported high passenger volumes.

Malmö Airport also reported strong numbers for international travel during the month.

Domestic traffic increased by 7% with particularly strong growth at Umeå, Luleå and Kiruna airports, Swedavia said.

Meanwhile, Ronneby Airport also recorded an increase in traffic.

Airports in other parts of Sweden showed a more modest trend.

To meet the increased travel demand, 15 new routes were launched during the summer – nine from Arlanda and six from Landvetter – including new charter destinations such as Lamezia Terme, Skiathos and Monastir.

In all, just over 3.3 million passengers flew via Swedavia’s airports in July, which is 88% of pre-pandemic levels in 2019 and an increase of 2% compared to July of last year.

International air travel increased by 2%, while domestic travel increased by 7%.

Overall, domestic travel was at 57% of pre-pandemic levels, while international travel was 96% of 2019 levels.

In July, a total of just over 2.4 million passengers travelled via Stockholm Arlanda, Sweden’s largest airport.

This is an increase of 4% compared to July 2024 and corresponds to 97% of pre-pandemic levels.

International air travel increased by 1%, while domestic travel increased by 28%.

Swedavia’s airports served approximately 2.2 million international passengers and just over 254,000 domestic passengers.

In July, total of just over 610,000 passengers travelled via Sweden’s second largest airport – Göteborg Landvetter.

This marks an increase of 2% compared to July 2024.

International travel increased by 2% to approximately 581,000 passengers.

Domestic travel decreased by 9% to just under 29,000 passengers.

Overall passenger levels for Landvetter in July were 89% of pre-pandemic levels.

Swedavia’s other eight airports had mixed trends in July.

Kiruna Airport accounted for the largest increase in passenger traffic, followed by Ronneby and Luleå airports.

Both Åre Östersund and Visby airports had weaker passenger growth compared to July 2024, while Bromma Stockholm continued to have the weakest passenger growth as a result of the airlines’ new plan to focus their investments on Stockholm Arlanda.

Åre Östersund Airport was closed for three weeks in July due to runway work.
