Ground handling provider Swissport International has launched a new operation at Naha Airport, Okinawa, further cementing the company’s growth in Japan and the Asia Pacific region.

The Swissport Okinawa team is supporting the start-up of Hong Kong Express’s new daily Airbus 321 Hong Kong – Okinawa – Hong Kong service.

“We are delighted to be launching a new operation at Naha Airport, Okinawa, working with valued partner Hong Kong Express to ensure seamless air travel for residents and visitors to this region of Japan,” said Swissport Senior Vice President Asia Toralf Sonntag.

“As our sixth station in Japan, the Okinawa launch is an important step forward for Swissport as it grows throughout Japan and the broader Asia Pacific region.”

Naha Airport Okinawa is the fifth Swissport station in Japan to support Hong Kong Express, following Nagoya, Narita, Haneda and Fukuoka. Okinawa is the southernmost prefecture in Japan, home to a tropical archipelago of more than 160 islands and enjoying a comfortable climate year-round.

Each year Swissport Japan’s 1,200-strong team serves around 4.5 million passengers and 26,000 flights at six stations throughout the country, providing a full range of ground services, cargo handling, maintenance and executive aviation services to more than 45 customers.
