TAP Air Portugal has established a partnership with the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) and the Portuguese Paralympic Committee (CPP) through an agreement that makes the national airline the Official Airline of Team Portugal and Olympic Partner until the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.
This agreement covers the entire Olympic cycle, including transport for the Portuguese delegation to the 2028 Games, as well as to qualifying events, training camps and international preparation missions.
Under the motto ‘Vamos LA’ (Let’s go LA), this partnership symbolises a shared commitment to raising Portugal’s profile, both on and off the tracks, fields and courts.
‘Vamos’ expresses the collective support of all Portuguese people for the athletes, and ‘LA’ refers to the destination of the next Olympic Games, Los Angeles, where TAP will proudly fly Portugal’s representatives.
During the signing ceremony, which brought together representatives from TAP, COP and CPP, as well as several athletes, TAP Miles&Go Gold and Silver cards were presented to Portuguese athletes who won medals at the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, in a symbolic gesture of recognition and encouragement for their national sporting merit.
The event also included a roundtable discussion between athletes from different generations, Carlos Lopes and Rosa Mota, who brought home Olympic medals from the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, and Patrícia Sampaio and Diogo Cancela, who aspire to repeat the feat.
This moment of sharing around the values of teamwork, overcoming adversity and excellence was moderated by TAP employee and triathlete João Cunha Rego.
Carlos Oliveira, The Chairman of the Board of Directors of TAP, said: “it is with great pride that we renew our commitment to Portuguese sport and to all athletes who fly the Portuguese flag at the highest level.
“We are certain that, with this partnership, our athletes will go faster, higher and stronger. Transporting Team Portugal is more than a mission, it is a commitment to the values that unite us: dedication, overcoming adversity and ambition.”
The President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee, Fernando Gomes, said: “I thank TAP for assuming the role of privileged partner of Portuguese sport.
This is not an isolated initiative, because at the COP and the CPP we will continue to build partnerships that promote unity, create real value for athletes and for the entire sports ecosystem, because our national success is not the sum of isolated efforts, but the result of an organised, intelligent, and cooperative collaboration.
José Manuel Lourenço, President of the Portuguese Paralympic Committee, highlighted: “the partnership with TAP represents a shared commitment to promoting not only Paralympic sport, but Portuguese sport in general, and to raising Portugal’s international profile.
“It guarantees conditions that allow our athletes to compete and represent the country at the highest level, with excellence and pride.
“With this agreement, TAP becomes the official airline of Team Portugal, reinforcing its commitment to the mobility and well-being of our missions. This is a decisive first step in the logistical preparation for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.”.
