Temporary changes to EU regulations affect liquid restrictions at Stockholm Arlanda

Starting 1 September, a new temporary EU regulation will come into effect at Stockholm Arlanda Airport’s Terminal 5, impacting the size of liquid containers allowed in hand baggage at security checkpoints.

Under the new rules, passengers can carry liquid containers up to 100 ml each in their hand baggage, with no limit on the number of containers.

Importantly, these containers, along with electronics like laptops and mobile phones, can remain in the hand baggage during the X-ray screening process.

Karl Eklund, airport director at Stockholm Arlanda Airport, clarified that this regulation only applies to the new security checkpoint in Terminal 5. “Liquid containers smaller than 100 ml and electronics, such as computers and mobile phones, can continue to remain in hand baggage at the new security control checkpoint,” Eklund said.

For other terminals at Arlanda, and at Swedavia’s nine other airports, the existing rules will remain unchanged.

Passengers will still need to remove liquid containers and place them in a separate one-litre plastic bag for screening.

Swedavia, the operator of the airport, will be providing updated information regarding these changes through its various passenger communication channels, including its website and mobile app.
