Thilo Schmid took up his position as new President and CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH.

Together with Managing Director and CFO Torsten Schrank, the 46-year-old business studies graduate forms the management at Cologne Bonn Airport.

“The war in Ukraine is of great concern to all of us and my start today at Cologne Bonn Airport is marked by current events,” Thilo Schmid said.

“Nevertheless, I am confident and happy to start my new, exciting task.

“With its two business segments of passenger traffic and cargo, Cologne Bonn Airport is in a very good position and has a great deal of development potential.

“Together with my Managing Director colleague Torsten Schrank and all of the staff, I want to set the course for a successful and sustainable future.

“In addition to the core business of flying, we will focus on the areas of sustainability, climate neutrality, noise control and the mobility of the future, which we want to continue to pursue intensively”.

Until the end of February, Thilo Schmid was employed in a managerial position at Düsseldorf Airport.

As Senior Vice President Aviation & Accountable Manager, he was responsible there for all operational and commercial divisions at the airport, with a total of around 900 employees.

He started his 20-year career in aviation in the Lufthansa Group, before moving to Düsseldorf Airport in 2012.

In both groups, Thilo Schmid held various managerial positions, including as director, and was involved on both the passenger and cargo side.

In December last year, the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH unanimously appointed him as a new member and President and CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH.
