Singapore Changi Airport handled 5.23 million passengers in September – a 6.1 per cent year-on-year (YOY) increase.

During the month, all regions registered growth, with traffic to and from Northeast Asia rising seven per cent. This was supported by the strong performance of China (+12 per cent) and Japan (+11 per cent), which led the gainers among Changi’s top markets.

Europe and North America also registered strong growth, both registering double-digit YOY growth.

For the first three quarters of 2018, passenger traffic rose 5.8 per cent to 48.7 million, compared to the same period last year. India, Japan, the UK, Germany and the United States were among the fastest growing markets, all registering double-digit growth.

This month saw the launch of the world’s longest commercial flight from Changi when Singapore Airlines started a service on 11 October to New York’s Newark Liberty International Airport. With this new daily non-stop service, there are 72 weekly passenger services between Changi Airport and the US.
