Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea has celebrated in Venice carrying its 18 millionth passenger since it started operations back in 2012.
The airline operates 293 routes connecting 78 cities in 13 European countries and expects to carry between 5.7 and 6 million passengers this year.
Volotea’s founder and chief executive officer, Carlos Muñoz said: “Eighteen million passengers carried since 2012 demonstrates our continuous and significant growth.
“This year we continue adding new routes all across our network, offering non-stop connections to mid and small-sized European cities, widening our clients’ travel choice at convenient fares.”
Volotea has recently reinforced its shareholder base adding five private equity firms and family offices based in the United States (including Elysium LLC and HRS Management) and Europe (including Meridia Capital, Rijn Capital and Rocinante) to help fund the company’s growth potential.
Muñoz, as well as its core management team, increased their investment in the company, which the airline said reaffirms a strong commitment to the future strategy.
Volotea operates its network with 32 aircraft in 2018. Its fleet includes Boeing 717s and Airbus A319s.
