In a landmark achievement underscoring its dedication to global security standards and operational excellence, Wizz Air has successfully attained Level II certification – the highest achievable for initial certification – under the IATA Security Management System (SeMS) program.

This accomplishment makes Wizz Air the first low-cost carrier and only the second airline in Europe to reach this level of recognition.

The certification covers Wizz Air Hungary and Wizz Air Malta, reflecting the airline’s proactive approach to aviation security and its alignment with international best practices.

This success would not have been possible without the Wizz Air Group Security and Resilience team, whose leadership, expertise, and cross-functional coordination played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone.

The SeMS program, developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), promotes a risk-based, performance-driven security culture across the aviation industry.

Diarmuid O’ Conghaile, Wizz Air’s Chief Operations Officer said: “Achieving SeMS certification is a proud milestone that highlights our commitment to operational excellence and a proactive security culture. Our teams will continue to build on this strong foundation to further strengthen security management across the Wizz network.”

Certification for Wizz Air Group’s UK operations is scheduled for the next phase of the program, planned for next year, as the airline continues to expand its security excellence across its entire network.

Frederic Leger, IATA Senior Vice President, Products & Services said: “SeMS is essential to shifting global aviation security from a compliance-based approach to one that proactively identifies and mitigates risks while driving continuous improvement.

“Achieving this requires the full support of the air transport industry. Wizz Air is leading the way—not only as the first low-cost airline to earn this certification, but through its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of aviation security”.
