Wizz Air has reported strong growth in passenger numbers for April, as the low-cost carrier continues to expand its network across Europe.

The airline carried 6.63 million passengers during the month, a 21.9% increase compared with the same period last year. Capacity also rose, up 23.1% to 7.46 million seats, while the load factor dipped slightly by 0.9 percentage points to 88.9%.

The growth comes as Wizz Air pushes ahead with expansion plans in key markets, particularly in Italy.

The carrier confirmed it will add a third Airbus A321neo aircraft to its base at Palermo’s Falcone Borsellino Airport in September, building on an earlier announcement of two aircraft from August.

The additional capacity will support new domestic routes to Rome Fiumicino and Pisa, alongside international services to destinations including Barcelona, Dortmund, Marrakech and Prague.

Wizz Air also announced plans to establish a new base in Turin—its seventh in Italy—where it will station two A321neo aircraft from October.

The move is expected to double originating capacity from the city to more than one million seats annually, reinforcing the airline’s position as the country’s second-largest carrier.

The company highlighted its environmental performance, noting it had been ranked Europe’s most emissions-efficient airline in Cirium’s 2025 EmeraldSky Annual Review, an independent industry benchmark.

József Váradi, Chief Executive, said the airline remained financially stable despite recent market uncertainty, adding that it had secured around 70% of its summer jet fuel requirements at fixed prices.

The update comes amid broader pressures on the aviation sector, including rising fuel costs and geopolitical uncertainty, as airlines seek to balance expansion with operational resilience.
