Wizz Air is celebrating an impressive milestone by surpassing 65 million passengers at London Luton, according to new airport data.

Known by customers for its cheap fares, the company served more than 5 million passengers in June alone this year. It has served more than 50 million passengers over the last two years.

It is now the largest airline to operate at London Luton Airport (LLA) with 12 aircraft based there.

Zsuzsa Trubek, corporate communications manager at Wizz Air UK, said: “It’s a big day for Wizz Air as we celebrate 65 million passengers at London Luton Airport. What we can offer travellers is an exciting mix of popular destinations, as well as off-the-beaten-track locations to explore.

“As we go into the summer holiday season, we are excited to welcome even more customers travelling for their holidays or visiting family and friends. The UK is an important market for us, and London remains a key focus for investment.

“We would like to thank the team at London Luton Airport for their partnership over the past 19 years and look forward to what the future holds.”

Jonathan Rayner, chief commercial officer at London Luton Airport, said: “The success of Wizz Air at London Luton Airport is testament to our strong partnership. Since that first flight in 2004, both Wizz and LLA have made huge advances, achieving impressive growth in both passenger numbers and the choice of destinations.

“Our priority, as ever, is to continue to deliver a simple and friendly passenger experience as we move towards the next key milestone of our relationship with Wizz – next year’s twentieth anniversary.”
