Wizz Air, the leading low-cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe, has introduced the Cabin Crew to Captain programme that helps aspiring Wizz Air’s Cabin Crew turn their dreams into reality through comprehensive financial, travel and accommodation support, as well as a tailored work and study schedule. By breaking down barriers to the profession, WIZZ aims to support ambitious crew members on their journey to the flight deck and pioneer gender equality in aviation.

The 40-month long programme offers existing crew members based in Hungary, Romania, Poland and Bulgaria with little to no flying experience the opportunity to obtain a Commercial Pilot License and kick-start their pilot career while remaining an integral part of the WIZZ Team. To ensure a comfortable standard of living while studying, cadets will be able to rotate between work and study on a monthly basis. Those who finish their flight training have the perspective of building a dazzling career at Europe’s fastest growing airline while obtaining high quality education in line with WIZZ standards.

The programme schedule consists of 22 months of ab-initio ground training and 18 months of flight training at Trener Flight School in Nyíregyháza Hungary. After successful graduation from the Cabin Crew to Captain programme and meeting the general requirements, cadets may become WIZZ pilot trainees and get enrolled in further trainings (advanced and Wizz Air trainings). Pilot trainees will be released as First Officers after successfully passing the final Flight Check for Release.

This one-of-a-kind programme has been launched to nurture talent and diversity within the organisation, as well as support Wizz Air’s broader commitment to reaching 25% female representation in the flight deck by priory 2030. Over the next few months, Wizz Air aims to make the pilot career path accessible to even more cabin crew by extending the programme to additional base countries within its network.

To summarize the Cabin Crew to Captain programme, Wizz Air has released a video, which can be viewed here.

Captain Darwin Triggs, Head Of Flight Operations And Chief Pilot at Wizz Air, said: “We are excited to be launching the industry-leading Cabin Crew to Captain program dedicated to WIZZ flight attendants, whose dream it is to become pilots. It is a great opportunity for them to develop their career and grow within the company, as the airline continues expanding its fleet and route network. We believe that this program will also support gender equality in aviation and its sustainable growth.”
