Fast-growing Wizz Air launches more new routes

Fast-expanding central European low-cost carrier Wizz Air will start a new twice-weekly route on 16 December from Birmingham Airport to Cluj International Airport – the second largest city in Romania.

The new service will utilise an Airbus A320/A321 aircraft and it adds to others launched earlier this month from its range of European bases.

Birmingham Airport acting aviation director, Tom Screen said: “We are delighted that Wizz Air has decided to increase its presence at Birmingham Airport by adding flights to Cluj this winter.

“With strong load factors across all their existing Birmingham network, we are sure that Wizz Air’s sixth route from the Midlands will continue their success.”

Wizz Air chief corporate officer, Owain Jones said: “Wizz Air continues to expand and invest in our UK operations, growing our network across the country. Cluj is an exciting new destination for our customers in the Midlands.”

Wizz Air has also launched two new low-fare routes to Israel in the shape of Budapest – Eilat (Ovda) and Sofia – Eilat (Ovda). The twice weekly Airbus A320/321 services will start operating 9-10 November, along with five other winter routes from Eila to London, Vienna, Bucharest, Riga and Warsaw.

The carrier has also added a new route from Kaunas (Lithuania) to Turku (Finland). It will operate the sector twice a week from 9 November using an Airbus A320/321.
