ANA Joins IATA’s Turbulence Aware Platform

All Nippon Airways (ANA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA), today announced that ANA will become the first Japanese airline to join the IATA Turbulence Aware platformblank.

This voluntary program helps airlines mitigate turbulence by collecting and sharing real time flight data with participating airlines that helps better inform their pilots and dispatchers to select optimal flight routes and altitudes to navigate around unsafe weather conditions.

“ANA is proud to participate in IATA’s Turbulence Aware program to bolster safety and contribute important operational information to the aviation industry from our flights across Japan and the world,” said Shinichi Inoue, President and CEO of ANA.

“Safety is our top priority and through this platform, we hope to further improve our practices and to contribute to improving the safety of the wider industry.”

“Having access to accurate and timely data empowers crews to improve safety by avoiding turbulence. We are pleased to have ANA contributing data to Turbulence Aware, especially enhancing coverage in Asia Pacific”, said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General.

ANA will introduce the Turbulence Aware system on its Boeing 737 aircraft in FY23 with plans to expand to other aircraft in the future.
